DofE Open Expeditions

If you are an individual or just have a couple of friends who missed out on DofE at school you can still join one of our DofE Open Groups to complete your DofE Expedition. We offer Open Group expedition practice and qualifying expeditions.

Next available open expeditions are October Half Term 2015

We offer the following open expeditions:

Open Gold Expedition Canoeing

Open Silver Expedition Walking

Open Bronze Expedition Walking

Open Gold Expedition Walking

Open Silver Expedition Canoeing

The DofE Bronze expedition is a good entry point if you are new to DofE and don’t do much walking or camping.  You can do Bronze DofE from the age of 14.  You can find out how to become part of an Open Bronze Group by clicking the link.

If you have done your DofE Bronze, then Silver is the next obvious step.  You can also do this if you are 15 years old and want to do direct entry into the award at this level.  If you choose this you will have to do more training.

The Open DofE Gold Walking requires a good level of physical fitness and sufficient training to ensure that you can complete a 4 day expedition successfully.  You must be 16 years of age.  For those who have not done bronze or silver additional training will be required.

If you have done your DofE Bronze on foot then Silver is the next obvious step but you might want to consider learning a new skill or making use of an existing one. An essential part of your training will involve learning how to look after yourself and others canoeing.  Direct entry into this is possible but more training is required.

Once again it’s all about learning new skills and finding challenges which will be fun.  The British Canoe Union 3 star can be done as part of training for this in some cases.
